چکیده

Structural coupling is the disturbance to the aircraft’s inertial sensors caused by the flexibility in the airframe, and is particularly problematic for modern combat aircraft. The current solution uses a series of notch filters to remove the structural frequencies, but these introduce significant phase delays into the control loop. This paper presents some experimental and theoretical results from a flexible beam, and the use of Kalman filters to reduce the effects of structural coupling. This work is part of an ongoing project in conjunction with BAE Systems. Copyright © 2002 IFAC

Filtering Structural Modes in Aircraft: Notch Filters Vs Kalman Filters

The disturbances to an airframe’s sensors caused by the flexibility of the airframe is called structural coupling. Notch filters are currently used to attenuate the effect that the structural modes have on the aircraft’s inertial flight control sensors. However, this approach is becoming more problematic with modern combat aircraft. A complex model which is representative of an agile combat air...

LQG vibration control of sandwich beams with transversely flexible core equipped with piezoelectric patches

The purpose of this paper is control of simply supported flexible core sandwich beam's linear vibration equipped with piezoelectric patches under different loads. The effects of external forces imposed on sandwich beam can be reached to a minimum value by designing an appropriate controller and control the beam's vibration. Three-layer sandwich beam theory is used for analytical modeling of san...

Load Identification for a Cantilever Beam Based on Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors

Load identification plays an important role in structural health monitoring, which aims at preventing structural failures. In order to identify load for linear systems and nonlinear systems, this paper presents methods to identify load for a cantilever beam based on dynamic strain measurement by Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors. For linear systems, the proposed inverse method consists of Kalma...

FSR Decrement and Coupling Coefficient Increment in Add-Drop Filters

In this paper, effects of the structural parameters on the optical characteristics of an add-drop filter, consisting of two straight waveguides and a micro-ring resonator (MRR), have been investigated. In this research, effects of MRR radius, the width of MRR and waveguide and the gap between MRR and waveguide, on free spectral range (FSR) and coupling coefficient have been studied. It is found...

Structural Analysis of Unsymmetric Laminated Composite Timoshenko Beam Subjected to Moving Load

The structural analysis of an infinite unsymmetric laminated composite Timoshenko beam over Pasternak viscoelastic foundation under moving load is studied. The beam is subjected to a travelling concentrated load. Closed form steady state solutions, based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) are developed. In this analysis, the effect of bend-twist coupling is also evaluated. Selec...
